Recoverability in Action Research
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper develops three concepts important to the practice of action researchecoverability, research themes, and iterationby highlighting their applicability beyond single action research studies. The concepts are discussed against a program of action research, undertaken by a multidisciplinary research team, with a research focus on local, sector and national levels. This contrasts with the more usual pattern of action research in single situations. Action research is criticized on the grounds that it lacks generalizability and external validity from one-off studies. Goodness criteria have been derived to address these and other criticisms. The recoverability criterion, less strong than the repeatability of experimentation, is central to these. A second concept, that of research themes, links the recoverability criterion and iteration in action research. Iteration within and between projects and the notion of critical mass, of doing work in more than one setting, address the limitations of single setting studies.

On Theory of Compressive Sensing via `1-Minimization: Simple Derivations and Extensions
Compressive (or compressed) sensing (CS) is an emerging methodology in computational signal processing that has recently attracted intensive research activities. At present, the basic CS theory includes recoverability and stability: the former quantifies the central fact that a sparse signal of length n can be exactly recovered from far fewer than n measurements via `1minimization or other reco...

متن کاملRemarks on the Architecture of OT Syntax Grammars
This paper argues for a particular architecture of OT syntax. This architecture has three core features: i) it is bidirectional, the usual production-oriented optimisation (called ‘first optimisation’ here) is accompanied by a second step that checks the recoverability of an underlying form; ii) this underlying form already contains a full-fledged syntactic specification; iii) especially the pr...
متن کاملSearchable Encryption with Keyword-Recoverability
Searchable encryption has many applications including email systems and storage systems. The usefulness of searchable encryption derives from its support of keyword-testability. Keyword-testability means that a receiver of a ciphertext can test whether the ciphertext contains a specific keyword. Recently, Bellare et al. suggested an efficientlysearchable encryption scheme with keyword-recoverab...
متن کاملGestural overlap and recoverability
According to previous investigations of gestural patterning, consonant gestures exhibit less temporal overlap in a syllable/word onset than in a coda or across syllables. Additionally, front-to-back order of place of articulation in stop-stop sequences (labial-coronal, coronal-dorsal, labial-dorsal) exhibits more overlap than the opposite order. One possible account for these differences is tha...
